Wednesday, September 23 closing event of the largest international exhibition of contemporary art in the Castle of Barletta "On the Ground" underground ", a stage of the project in 2009 Intramoenia Extra Art - Castles of Puglia.
The show closes Sunday, September 20, but reopened on September 23, provides an extraordinary opportunity to visit last continuously (from 16 to 22 hours) and an evening party with a varied program of action and moments of performance between projections and music.
On the occasion of the NOTTE BIANCA in Barletta, September 5, 2009 the exhibition was open to all who were interested in visiting.
One group of several castles per year is going to become hostel and Indian reservation for contemporary artists, selected within a multimedia, multicultural, transnational perspective. As a consequence, a sort of cultural nomadism is created, that leads the art protagonists to travel to and reside in the Apulian land. Apulia thus becomes the theatre of a cultural event, in which contemporary art paradoxically plans its own past, while keeping in touch with the history of the places. Of those very places. A Grand tour for everyone.
(Achille Bonito Oliva)
Contemporary art returns to the Castles of Apulia with the fourth edition of INTRAMOENIA/EXTRA ART – Castles of Apulia, the project aimed at promoting Apulia’s monuments, carried out under Achille Bonito Oliva’s scientific direction and curated by Giusy Caroppo. This year, the event is included within “Puglia Circuito del contemporaneo”, the regional project, approved through a specific deed, supplemental to the Program Agreement ‘Sensi Contemporanei’, signed by Regione Puglia, the Ministry for Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Development, and enacted by the municipality of Barletta in collaboration with the Regional Direction for Apulian Cultural and Natural Heritage.
After Castel del Monte, the Daunian castles of Lucera, Monte Sant’Angelo and Manfredonia, and the Salento, castles of Acaya, Lecce and Muro Leccese, INTRAMOENIA/EXTRA ART has come to the Land of Bari: a two-stage tour, which started from the Swabian Castle of Bari, where INTRAMOENIA EXTRA ART hosted a site specific edition of the group project THE THIRD PARADISE by MICHELANGELO PISTOLETTO and MAMA, sound sculpture by GIANNA NANNINI, until March 2009.
From May 16 to August 30 2009, the Grand tour in the Land of Bari will involve the Swabian Aragonese Castle of Barletta in a great exhibition, entitled “On the ground, underground”, featuring original open air workshops and works by: GEORGES ADEAGBO - AES+F GROUP - EL ANATSUI - BETTY BEE - LORIS CECCHINI - PAOLO CHIASERA - GINO DE DOMINICIS - TULLIO DE GENNARO - DUENUOVI - DOMINGO MILELLA - PIERO MOTTOLA - ERNESTO NETO - ALESSANDRO PALMIGIANI - ZHANG PEILI - LUCA PIGNATELLI - ANNALISA PINTUCCI - MARIA PIZZI - ZAKARIA RAMHANI - MASSIMO RUIU - ROBERTO SCHIAVI - SHOZO SHIMAMOTO - ADRIAN TRANQUILLI - VICTORIA VESNA.
Site specific works will be set within the strikingly huge and newly restored castle basements, which will open to contemporary art for the first time, thus allowing a surprising immersion in history and contemporaneity.
